Water service and distribution jobs can be office or general labor positions that involve working indoors and out. Typically, the skills required include strong math skills, computer software experience, experience with water meters, mains and service lines, and knowledge of tools, automotive equipment and construction equipment. Examples include engineers, CAD operators, dispatchers, meter readers, service workers, heavy equipment operators, equipment maintenance mechanics, and warehouse workers.
The minimum level of education required to perform water service and distribution job functions is a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Depending upon the amount of specialization required to perform the job functions, employees may also be required to complete college coursework, obtain a technical certificate, professional license, or a Class 1, 2, 3 or 4 Water Distribution Operator Certification issued by the State of Colorado Department of Health and Public Environment Operator Certification Board.
